God Bless Our Native Land!

John S. Dwight·Modern

Verse 1

God bless our native land!
Firm may she ever stand,
Through storm and night;
When the wild tempests rave,
Ruler of winds and wave!
Do thou our country save,
By thy great might.

Verse 2

For her our prayer shall rise
To God above the skies;
On him we wait;
Thou, who art ever nigh,
Guardian with watchful eye!
To thee aloud we cry,--
God save the state!

John S. Dwight, “God Bless Our Native Land!”

Lord! While for All Mankind We Pray

John Reynell Wreford·Modern

Verse 1

Lord! while for all mankind we pray,
Of ev’ry clime and coast,
Oh! hear us for our native land,--
The land we love the most.

Verse 2

Oh! guard our shore from ev’ry foe,
With peace our borders bless,
With prosperous times our cities crown,
Our fields with plenteousness.

Verse 3

Unite us in the sacred love
Of knowledge, truth, and thee;
And let our hills and valleys shout
The songs of liberty.

Verse 4

Lord of the nations! thus to thee
Our country we commend;
Be thou her Refuge and her Trust,
Her everlasting Friend.

John Reynell Wreford, “Lord! While for All Mankind We Pray”

My Country, 'Tis of Thee

Samuel F. Smith·Modern

Verse 1

My country, ’tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrim’s pride,
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring.

Verse 2

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills
Like that above.

Verse 3

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom’s song:
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Verse 4

Our fathers’ God, to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing:
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King.

Samuel F. Smith, “My Country, 'Tis of Thee”
